It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the record chasers, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

It needed until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their hitters to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

Whether this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this ton was far harder to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it was a frustrating experience because I feel like I lacked timing completely," stated Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive nature kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and after that Healy was on her way.

"An opportunity to go out there and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the assurance to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if we do, we are confident we can succeed."

These statements will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this World Cup should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success coming after win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those physical issues have postponed plans to retire, this World Cup is anticipated as her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
