Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group
Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners groups.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
