- Nuclear Talks: Latest talks between the United States and Iran on Tehran's atomic program ended inconclusively, with indications of further discussions scheduled.
- Public Statements: Before the attack, a senior US official had labeled Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism” and issued warnings regarding its weapons development.
- Diplomatic Deadline: Reportedly, a deadline of 10 to 15 days had been given to Iran to resolve the atomic standoff or confront severe consequences.
Iranian Response
Reacting to prior accusations, Iranian authorities had accused the United States of spreading “big lies” about its defensive capabilities. Officials rejected claims about weapons development and protest deaths as unfounded.
